20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
My thoughts:
At this point I realize that all I have taken for granted about the world around me is not happenstance. In the early part of Genesis Chapter 1, God divided the vaults of water with the sky. Then he divided the vaults of water beneath the sky to produce dry ground. Now he is populating the sky, and the sea and the land with creatures suitable for each.
Did you ever bring home a puppy on impulse? Did you have a food bowl, a water bowl, a safe place for the puppy to play? Did you have time to care for the puppy? Did you work out all those problems or did you let the puppy down?
God was ready for the creatures he created. He had already made a perfect environment for them before he created each creature “according to its kind.”
If you’ve ever seen a mother dog begin to minister to her new puppies, you know that God also provided the caretaker instinct to the parents of creatures who are born helpless. There is a perfect chain of love that began with our creator and replicates itself with every generation.
