Our mortality is something

We mostly just ignore,

Even though the time that’s left

Is shrinking ever more.

I think this is a special way

That people’s minds are blessed;

Though we know someday we’ll die,

We keep thinking, “Not just yet.”

Humans are aware

Life’s a temporary condition,

But thinking of death over much

Would make our life perdition;

So God in all His wisdom

Keeps death forever at bay,

But belying all our optimism…

It takes us anyway.
