With so much of the country dry

And rain still out of sight,

Fireworks will not brighten

Many skies tonight.

It’s just a little sacrifice

Next to what may come;

Unless the rains begin to fall

The crops this year are done.

We all have seen old movies

About dust bowls and no work

And wonder if that fate again

Ahead of us may lurk.

Our nation long ago was founded

By men of valor strong—

Men who would have given all

So this country could go on.

So let us sacrifice where needed

And say prayers for our great land;

We must pray about the weather

And other dangers now at hand.

Sometimes the way is weary

And we fear we’ve lost our way,

But there’s no place  that is better

Than the good old U.S.A.
